About Foundation Year 2

Foundation Year 2 (F2) is the second year of the UK Foundation Programme. F2 doctors take on greater clinical responsibility, often act in supervisory roles for F1 colleagues, and complete a more diverse range of placements including community-based posts.

F2 sits on Nodal Point 2 of the 2016 hospital doctor contract, a step up from F1's Nodal Point 1. Most F2 doctors progress directly into specialty training (IMT, CT or ST1) or take a year out before applying.

The same supplements apply as for F1: weekend allowance, 37% night enhancement, on-call availability allowance, and additional hours.
