About salaried GP pay
Salaried GPs are employees of a GP practice rather than partners. They work on a contract within the BMA Model Salaried GP Contract framework, which sets minimum and maximum salary ranges for full-time working (9 sessions per week).
A 'session' is a 4 hour 10 minute period of clinical work. Most salaried GPs work between 4 and 9 sessions per week, with salary pro-rated accordingly — e.g. 7 sessions ≈ 7/9 of the full-time salary.
Salaried GPs are members of the NHS Pension Scheme (2015 CARE section in most cases), with contributions tiered by pensionable pay.
This is different from a GP partner, who receives a share of practice profits rather than a salary. Partner income is variable and depends on the practice's accounts — the calculator does not currently cover GP partners.
